Disk Space Full – C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\
Posted under Exchange, IIS, MS Outlook, Servers by ifoundafixThe other day while browsing the Internet, I Found A Fix for a recent problem I was having. The issue is described as follows;
I discovered that my Small Business Server (2003) was extremely very slow to respond to basic tasks. Printers were not working, browsing files and folders was slow and users were complaining of overall speed issues. On further inspection, I learned that C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\ folder had over 6gb of logfiles. The question was, could I delete these files and more importantly, can I prevent this from reocurring?
The solution and description to this error is set out below;
Unless you need to report who is connecting to your (1) Web site, (2) and/or SMTP server, you can delete the files in these folders . If you are not interested in this information, you can turn logging off on the SMTP Virtual Server in Exchange System Manager, and on the Default Web Site in IIS Manager.
To do this;
1. Open IIS. Then right click on your default web site, and from the Web Site Tab, you can uncheck the “Enable Logging” section. Alternatively, you can slect properties and modify the path for these log files to an alternative location.
2. Open Exchange System Manager. Click on Administrative Groups, Servers, <Exchange-db- name>, Protocols, SMTP and right-click on ‘Default Virtual Server’ and select properties. You can also uncheck ‘Enable Logging’ here or again, modify the path in the properties section.
I Hope you too have Found A Fix !!
Thanks! I used a tool called Scan to find out where my disk space was been used, then googled the solution and came upon your post…..looking in the files I found information about both types of connections. So this helped…again thanks!
Once question, can you delete the folder as well or do you have to delete the files in the folders only?
Regards
Ian
HI Ian,
Glad it worked for you. As far as I can see there is no need to delete the folder just the files within it.
Delete the log files from C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\W3SVC3, unless it is required for further use (Tak a backup of the logfiles before delete)
Even if you delete the log files, it will be created again unless you change the settings.
1. Control Panel-Administrative Tools- IIS Manager
2. Expand the Server(click + button next to the server name)- Websites
3. Right Click on “Default Websites”, select “Properties”
4. Under “Website” tab on the top, look for “Enable Logging”
5. By default, it is checked.
6. You can either disable by unchecking the check box or change the Log Schedule by clicking “Properties” button next to it.
Done.. Have a nice day..
Thanks!
It helps alot!
Also found this through Google and helped me out. Thanks!
