Vista stuck in loop ‘Configuring Updates ‘
Posted under Software, Vista by adminThe other day while browsing the Internet I Found A Fix for a recent problem I was having. The issue is described as follows;
The problem encountered is that when the PC is booted up you will encounter a message saying something like “Configuring Updates Stage 3 of 3 0%, then reboots, leading to the exact same message.
Windows will not boot either to normal mode, safe mode or even last good configuration.
The solution and description to this error is set out below;
1. First thing to try is to press F8, choose the option to ‘Repair PC’ then you can go to a restore point.
Now if this works you must either run Windows Update again (to ensure it does not get stuck in the same problem) or disable Windows Update.
or 2. Connect the hard drive to another PC and deleting (or renaming) the file c:\windows\winsxs\pending.xml
(you will need to ‘give yourself’ access to the folder’)
3. Other suggestion: Some users on a few forums report a fix which has worked: Deleting or renaming the folder c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution.
